PRETTY THINGS AT O`NEILL`S - NOVELTIES DISPLAYED IN THE ENLARGED STORE OF THE FIRM.

H. O`Neill & Co. have just thrown open the Twentieth Street addition to their Sixth Avenue store and by use of its several floors have made such changes in their departments that their customers can but be greatly impressed by the improvements which have been secured. The change upon the ground floor has been so great that, stepping into the store from Sixth Avenue, one finds himself in a room 250 feet deep, the addition having added to the original depth the widths of five city lots.

A space 35 by 70 feet upon the second floor has been devoted to a restaurant, an institution for which there has been a demand hitherto impossible of satisfying because of lack of room. The new restaurant is an extremely good one, not only in its furniture, fixtures, and fittings, but in the even more important respect, its cuisine.

As usual, Messrs. O`Neill & Co. are well prepared to meet the demands of customers for seasonable goods. The millinery department and the cloak and costume department are each full of things which women like to look at and to wear. In this first-named department a great many hats and bonnets are noticed which deserve description. Here are some of them: A large, brown velvet hat, slightly turned at one side, the edge being in gilt cord, brim well covered with ostrich tips, back trimming of ribbon and aigrettos; next a large French gray flat hat, modestly but elegantly trimmed with feathers and ribbon of the same color; next a medium-sized hat of felt braided in imitation of straw, with a soft crown of velvet and a back trimming of swallows; finally a soft velvet turban of yellow velvet embroidered in black passementerie, having a Persian lamb brim, the finish being in quills and knotted ribbon.

One of the most striking garments in the store is a Pingat opera cloak. It is made of French-gray camel`s hair, embroidered in gold tinsel, heliotrope, and black, and it is lined throughout with quilted canary-colored satin. There is a long vest to the cloak of Ottoman silk, with a girdle of flat gold braid. The collar is a netted work of gold braid filled in with black ostrich feathers.

A short black plush wrap, embroidered in Persian colors, is a beautiful thing to look at. It has a high Medici collar, which terminates in a vest, and it is trimmed with a combination of chenille and crochet. It is a Pingat garment. Some handsome seal cloaks are shown. A New-market of full length, with Russian sable cuffs and collar, lined with sable, being particularly fine.

A worth dinner dress is greatly admired by all who see it. The skirt is of black velvet, with a panel of beautiful brocade on each side. The waist is of black velvet, with V back and front, the ornamentation finishing in a tight-fitting corsage of fine jet, from which, at the back, a fringe depends, thirty inches long in its longest part.
