Servant Who Had Been with the Winthrop Family for Forty Years a Suicide.

Joseph Gachet, seventy years old, who for the last forty years had served the Winthrop family as butler, shot himself through the head in his room at the home of Mrs. Mary J. Winthrop, the widow of Henry R. Winthrop, at 35 West Twentieth Street, yesterday morning. The old servant had been sick with a painful malady for a long time, and was under the care of Dr. Francis Delafield of 12 West Thirty-second Street.
